He heads the list for both the Maxwell and Bednarik semi-finalist lists and entered the Heisman Trophy race with another outstanding all around defensive performance.

Kansas State QB Collin Klein, USC receiver Marqise Lee and running back Kenjon Barner of Oregon head a strong field of offensive semifinalists for the Maxwell Award. Lee's Trojan teammate Matt Barkley is the only player who repeats as a semifinalist from 2011.

On the defensive side of the ball, Notre Dame's Manti Te'o and Georgia's Jarvis Jones head the nominees for the Bednarik Award and are both also semifinalists for the Maxwell Award.
