Pierre-Paul Wins Weekly Defensive Award

This week’s Draft Insiders’ offensive and defensive rookie player awards are both performers who were selected weekly winners earlier over the second half of the NFL 2010 season. The Saints RB Chris Ivory and the Giant’s DE Jason Pierre-Paul had strong performances last week that were instrumental in their teams winning critical games that keeps them in good position in the playoff hunt.
The Giant’s DE Jason Pierre-Paul had another excellent game last week with 3 tackles, 1 recovered fumble and 2 more critical sacks that enabled the GMen to bury the Redskins 31-7. He wins his second rookie award on consecutive weeks. As his rookie season has progressed, JPP was received more playing time due to the injury to Mathias Kiwanuka giving him extended reps in passing situations. He has developed quickly on his technique that has allowed him to use his awesome physical skills with rare triangle numbers for the position.
He has shown an array of pass rushing moves beyond his age and playing experience that has Giant fans excited about his impact as an NFL defender. He has incredible upside potential as an NFL starting defensive end that gives the GMen probably the deepest front four in the game. He should be a key defender on the Giants front four over the final month and may warrant special attention in their push for the NFL East title.
Chris Ivory of the Saints had 15 carries for 117 yards and 2 TDs that were critical in the New Orleans 34-30 win over the Bengals. Ivory ranks 8th in the NFC in rushing with 636 yards on 123 carries for an impressive 5.17 yard average and 5 TDs. He was undrafted out of Tiffin
Rookie runner LaGarrette Blount of the Bucs and defenders, CB Joe Haden of the Browns and DE Carlos Dunlap of the Bengals had strong games that challenged for the weekly awards.
