Texas beat the champion Trojans in a game for the ages. Texas QB Vince Young carried the Longhorns to another Rose Bowl title, this time as an undefeated BCS champion. USC had a great run and is still loaded to challenge for the national title next fall.
Penn St barely beat an 8-5 Florida St. club in overtime. They have beat one two top 20 clubs all season. PSU missed a perfect season by one second at Michigan but warrants an early selection on that alone. They did beat Ohio St. and Wisconsin at home but could have matched up vs a tougher foe in the postseason. Ohio St. beat a good Notre Dame club and completed their season with big wins over the Irish and Michigan. They figure in the top five off those wins alone. LSU beat up the Miami Hurricanes to complete a courageous season. Their two losses were against Georgia and an early loss to Tennessee. They figure in the top 5 off a truly gutty performance. Virginia Tech came back vs Louisville and will be a dangerous club next fall. West Virginia came up big vs Georgia winning a huge victory for the Big East Conference. Alabama defense shutdown the Texas Tech big play offense and amended for their two late season losses. Notre Dame lost a tough battle with Ohio St., but had a major turnaround season that sets the foundation for future national title chases under Charlie Weis. Florida beat a good Iowa club and won 4 of their last 5 mainly vs top clubs. Texas Christian won 11 games and beat a gritty Iowa St club. Wisconsin sent head coach Barry Alvarez off a winner by drilling an overmatched Auburn club that struggled mightily on offense. Oklahoma beat an overrated Oregon club and recovered from a subpar season by their high standards. Georgia took W Va lightly and never recovered from a 28-0 deficit. Oregon spent too much time complaining about the BCS snub and was not ready for the Sooners who came to play in the Holiday Bowl. Miami spit the bit vs LSU and got bombed. They went through an immediate overhaul in their coaching staff.
