NFL Draft 2023 – First Round Signings

NFL Draft 2023 – First Round Signings

Frank Coyle/ Pro Scout

The 2023 NFL Draft completed all draft choices to signed contracts with the addition of Seattle corner Devon Witherspoon with a four-year deal. Witherspoon was both the last 1st round and overall draft to sign.

The first-round selections are now all signed with lucrative signing bonuses ranging from $5.5 million for Felix Anudike-Uzomah of the Chiefs with the last pick of the round to Bryce Young of the Panthers with a $24.6 million bonus with the 1st overall selection.

Devon Witherspoon held out of the initial days of camp until he got his deal done. With few reps missed in the opening week, he still has the inside track of earning the starting job with a strong camp.

Jets Finalize Deal for Packers’ Aaron Rodgers

Jets Finally Complete Deal for Packers’ Aaron Rodgers

QB Aaron Rodgers

The long awaited trade between the NY Jets and the Green Bay Packers for star QB Aaron Rodgers was finally completed. The blockbuster trade has been discussed for the past few months with only final compensation delaying the completion. The Jets receive the 4-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers along with the Packers first round 2023 pick (#15) and a 5th round this year (#170) in exchange for New York’s 2023 1st-rounder (#13), 2023 second-round (#42) and sixth-round (#207) picks, as well as a conditional 2024 second-round selection that could become a first-round pick if Rodgers plays in at least 65% of the Jets’ snaps this year.

The Jets have spent the offseason working on this trade, plus bringing in new offensive players on the roster to facilitate transforming their 25th ranked offense into a playoff contender. They signed wideouts Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman to boost a receiving corps that features rookie sensation former #1 pick, Garrett Wilson and vet Cory Davis. The Jets also look to running back Breece Hall returning from an ACL injury. He was having an outstanding rookie performance when injured at midseason. Jets will probably focus on their offensive line with their early selections #15 and #43 in the NFL Draft 2023 which begins Thursday night at 8 pm

NFL Draft 2023 – Strong Corner Group Tops Talented Defensive Class

Strong Cornerback Group Tops Talented Defensive Class

Cornerbacks – Grade: A

     Frank Coyle/ Head scout

Positional Overview:

This year’s cornerback class is a high-quality group which is very deep, though not as top heavy as last year. There are a few blue chips expected to go in the mid-1st round with many other highly regarded corners expected to go through the top 50-100 overall selections. Underclassmen dominate our top ten prospects, though the senior group is a very solid with nice development. Devon Witherspoon is our #1 prospect with Christian Gonzalez and Joey Porter expected to earn mid first round selections. Witherspoon could be selected in the top 10 overall picks with a rookie starting grade. Gonzalez has the skill set to start early and is NFL ready after an awesome final performance. Porter is another in a long line of PSU corners to enter the NFL. He is a physical cover man with the NFL makeup to excel on the outside. Deonte Banks has prototypical shutdown skills for the pro game. He is rising fast and could earn a late 1st round selection. Teammate Jakorian Bennett is a rising cover man with well-developed talent to press for early starting time. Cam Smith and Kelee Ringo are possible late first round or early 2nd round picks. Both are SEC battle tested and figure to press for starting jobs in camp. Darius Rush and Emmanuel Forbes are another pair of talented big SEC corners. Rush is coming off an impressive career finish. Forbes is the best ball hawk in this class and has the length DCs like in outside defenders. Tyrique Stevenson and DJ Turner are well developed athletes who are NFL ready. Turner is coming off an impressive final performance plus an amazing NFL Combine sprint. They could go on the mid-2nd day. This is a deep group that will supply many NFL starters well into the 3rd day of the process. There could be at least 12 prospects selected in the top 100 choices. There will probably be 15+ prospects selected in the top 150 picks with the expected run-on corners from the mid-1st round through the early 3rd day. This class has very good depth and will provide a number of middle round steals. This position has annually provided the most overall selections and could duplicate that again. This group could supply as many as 35 total prospects and another 40 high priority FA. This deep crop of corners will supply a huge group of big corners with some versatility to also slide to safety in the nickel and dime sub packages.

NFL Draft 2023 – Tight End Class Strongest in a Decade

Tight End Class Strongest in a Decade

Frank Coyle/ Head Scout

This year’s tight end class is a bumper crop of prospects that will command many early selections especially over the first two days of the three day event. This position has played a bigger role in today’s passing game with prospects lining up at several positions. They possess size and speed to create major mismatches in coverage and become favorites in a club’s passing game.  Many are one-dimensional receivers with minimal blocking skills.

Draft Insiders’ 2023 NFL Draft Yearbook has over 200+ Scouting Reports Ready Now

Tight Ends – Grade: A

Positional Overview: This year’s group of tight ends ranks among the best in recent decades and features a few highly regarded players who will come off the board in the early rounds. Our #1 prospect is Michael Mayer with Dalton Kincaid ranked equally high. Mayer is a well-developed receiver with an early starting grade and an excellent addition to a passing game. Kincaid is highly developed receiver who could be a mid-1st round selection. He has the prototypical skill set for today’s position. Both Darnell Washington and Luke Musgrave are emerging prospects with early starting grades. Musgrave is a developed playmaker with impact run after the catch ability. Washington is a physical specimen with all the talent to be a well-rounded complete player at the position. This class should see another 2-3 players selected in the top 100 selections. Both Sam LaPorta and Tucker Kraft are high quality prospects and carry NFL starting grades and figure on the mid-2nd day of the NFL Draft. LaPorta is a multi-purpose tight end/H-back who fills key roles in an offense. Zach Kuntz had an outstanding NFL Combine and displayed all the physical skills to win a starting role with a high level of development as a blocker and receiver. He could be selected in the early middle rounds and possible surprise top 100 selection. Several middle round prospects like Luke Schoonmaker, Will Mallory, Davis Allen and Josh Whyle will be among the best value picks in this amazing class. As many as 18-20 players could be drafted with most in the middle to later rounds. This position plays a huge part in pro-offenses being used in a few hybrid roles.

      Positional Overview:
This year’s running back position is another above average group after a solid class last April. Underclassmen will once again dominate from among the top prospects with most having early NFL starting grades. This class could supply two #1 picks with Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs, the best candidates. There should be possibly 5-6 selections in the top 100 picks and 10-12 in the top 150 selections. Robinson is a very tough complete back. He is a well-rounded performer with a nice combination of quickness, power and complete skills to be a three down back. Gibbs is a playmaker with NFL starting talent. He had an impressive NFL Combine workout. He is a first-round bubble prospect with the talent to provide impact as a rookie. Zack Charbonnet is a workhorse back and one of the most durable runners in recent years. Devon Achane is another playmaker who figures to fill a few roles as a 1A type. He provides impact as receiver and a top change of pace runner. Lew Nichols is an emerging highly-underrated talent to become a three-down workhorse and one of the surprises of this group. This class should produce as many as 7-8 quality feature backs with a few at the top of the class capable of becoming early pro starters. Another gem is Tyjae Spears who we scouted extensively. He has the skills to be a quality role weapon with the athleticism to be a very good pro. He is a complete 1A type and best 3rd down back in this class. This class could provide 20+ selected in the seven rounds with many return specialists and 3rd down backs.
