The Ravens pulled off a blockbuster deal with the Bears to acquire young backer Roquan Smith. He gives them an impact defender with big play ability to blitz, in addition to going sideline to sideline. They surrendered a #2 and #5 picks in the NFL Draft 2023 plus LB AJ Klein.

The 49ers went after runner Christian McCaffrey aggressively after the Panthers fired HC Matt Rhule and went 1-5 through mid-October. They finally made the deal sending their #2, 3 and 4^th round picks in the NFL Draft 2023 plus a 5^th round selection in the following draft.

Look for a few more blockbuster deals with clubs looking to get the boost the Rams received last season when they acquired LB Von Miller. Teams in the bidding will have to have the salary cap dollars available to complete any deal which could create multiple moves. Many players are on their final contract year and eligible to enter the Free agent market in March 2023 which makes their cost cheaper for a player who may only be a rental piece before the offseason. With so many clubs alive for the playoffs, teams could be very active today to add the piece (s) to separate and make the critical run for the postseason with the Super Bowl wide open entering the stretch run.

 Offensive Players

QB Mason Rudolph, Steelers – Veteran QBs can be gold late in the season and postseason. Rudolph can command a 3^rd day selection as a key insurance policy for a contender.

Running Backs – Group features several feature backs who can give contenders a huge boost through the second half stretch run. Dolphins, Ravens, Rams and Bears are all definitely interested.

RB Josh Jacobs, Raiders – Raiders have caved in at 2-5 and Jacobs can bring a high selection, probably a #2 or #3 from a contender. Rams, Ravens and Dolphins interested.

RB Kareem Hunt, Browns – Productive veteran will generate much interest from contenders. Good fit for Dolphins and Bills. Probably commands an early middle round selection especially off strong Monday night performance.

RB Cam Akers, Rams – Malcontent will probably be moved if offered a late round selection. Expect it to get done. Dolphins, Bears and Bills are talking.

RB David Montgomery, Bears – Power back may be moved if they look to upgrade here. Probably brings a mid round selection.

RB Jeff Wilson 49ers – With McCaffrey in house now, a trade here is possible especially if they can land a corner in exchange. Straight up he warrants a 3^rd day selection.

RB Zack Moss, Bills – Possible move if a new veteran is added.

RB D’Ernest Johnson, Browns – Type will benefit from a new setting and can be a solid change of pace back.

Wide Receiver – This group will command the most interest by clubs. Expect a half of dozen moved by deadline with contenders trying to add another playmaker.

WR Chase Claypool, Steelers – Young big wideout has seen his role reduced in Pittsburgh. Good physical receiver with nice upside. Clubs like the Jets, Giants, Packers and Dolphins very interested. Probably 2nd day selection.

WR DJ Moore, Panthers – Young playmaker with high production and very durable. He will command a high selection (s) with contenders like Packers, Giants, Ravens and Dolphins all making calls.

WR Brandin Cooks, Texans – Veteran speedster has already been traded three times and is likely to move this week with contenders like the Packers, Rams and Ravens interested in adding his playmaking talent. His huge contract is a roadblock here which will reduce the number of clubs involved.

WR DJ Chark, Lions – First year veteran has not provided the playmaking desired here. He could command a middle round pick with the Rams, Packers, Dolphins and Giants talking.

WR AJ Green, Cardinals – Veteran is not the #1 receiver he was several years ago, but could help a playoff club in big games. May come cheap for a 3^rd down selection.

WR Jerry Jeudy, Broncos – Former#1 pick has been a disappointment with drops becoming an issue. A change of scenery could rejuvenate him. Possible destinations Giants, Packers and Rams interested.

WR Elijah Moore, Jets – Malcontent slot receiver has been more a locker room distraction than playmaker. Jets hoping for a middle round pick and possible trade outside the conference.

WR Nelson Agholor, Patriots – Fast veteran has been inconsistent throughout his career, though his vertical speed may entice another club to invest a later round selection.

WR KJ Hamler, Broncos – Injured prone slot receiver has not lived up to his high draft status. May only bring a late selection, though could be a gem for the club which uses him properly.

WR Kendrick Bourne, Patriots – Underrated veteran could help a contender with steady production and sound route running.

WR Kenny Golladay, Giants – High priced veteran has struggled staying on the field with hamstring issues. Rested since late September and could give a contender a quality #2 starter. Possible late pick.

WR Denzel Mims, Jets – Disgruntled young former #2 pick has not provided the impact on the outside expect. Jets are entertaining offers for a late selection.

TE position – This is a huge piece in pro passing games and these young veterans can warrant interest before the deadline.

TE Mike Gesicki, Dolphins – Fast sure handed receiving TE will become a free agent in March. He could come cheap if the Dolphins feel they can not resign him.

TE Albert Okwuegbunam  Broncos – Athlete has not been used to the fullest here. For a late round selection a contender might benefit from him filling a backup H back role.

TE Irv Smith, Vikings – Free agent in March, will warrant interest from contenders. Valuable to Vikes and a player they will attempt to resign before FA period.

OL Isaiah Wynn, Patriots – Mobile tackle/guard has performed well in the Patriots system. Teams like the Bengals, Cowboys and Rams interested.

OL Jackson Carman, Bengals – Young 2^nd round bust might be better in a new setting. Bengals listening.

OL Andre Dillard, Eagles – Bust at left tackle, but possible functional starter inside. Brings only conditional late pick

Defensive Players

DE Brian Burns, Panthers – Two high picks starting with a #1 pick for this Pro Bowler.

DE JJ Watt, Cardinals – Tough veteran can be a huge boost to a contender for the stretch run.

DE Yannick Ngakoue, Colts – Quick edge defender can provide impact as a rusher for situational packages.

DE Marcus Davenport, Saints – Huge edge talent has only touched surface of his skills, but has not had the breakout performance. He has a voidable contract this offseason and probably warrants only a mid round selection.

DE Clelin Ferrell, Raiders – Former high #1 has been very ordinary for the crashing Raiders.

DT Da’Ron Payne, Commanders – Tough interior lineman with time in the zero and three technique roles. May be tagged if no trade and enters FA market next March.

DT Jerry Tillery, Chargers – Young veteran has been somewhat disappointing. He can play both inside and outside and in either front. Probable 3^rd day selection.

LB Bradley Chubb, Broncos – Pro Bowl edge rushers are at a premium. He will command a #1 pick and clubs like the Jets, Dolphins, Rams and Vikings making strong bids.

LB Josh Allen, Jaguars – Edge rusher with big play talent. Though not as productive as Chubb or Burns, this is a playmaker with impact ability.

LB K’Lavon Chaisson, Jaguars – Young raw edge defender has been a first round bust thus far. Jaguars looking to move

LB Jerry Hughes, Texans – Savvy veteran could provide a boost to a contender’s defender. Price would be probably only be a third day selection.

CB William Jackson, Commanders – Veteran has not provided the impact expected when signed as a FA. Fine length and instincts could give a contender a solid #2 corner.

CB Bryce Hall, Jets – Long cover man has been relegated to the #3 corner if the addition of rookie Sauce Gardner. Could bring a middle round selection in any deal.

CB Sidney Jones, Seahawks – Veteran piece could command some interest from a contender for their sub packages.

S DeShon Elliott, Lions – One of many Lion defenders expected to move on this offseason. Elliott could help in dime package and bring a late round selection.

S Tarvarious Moore, 49ers – Upcoming free agent this spring may be moved to recover draft capital spent to land Christian McCaffrey.

#2 – 6-0 Eagles
The Eagles outclassed the Cowboys to remain the league’s only unbeaten club. They have a balanced offense and an aggressive defense that puts them atop the NFC. They get their bye week after their Sunday night victory to prepare for their first East title since 2019.

#3 – 4-2 Chiefs
Chiefs fought the Bills to the wire, but came up short this time. The travel to San Fran to face 49ers in a tough contest vs one of the leagues’ top defenses. Chiefs will be pressured all season in the toughest division.

#4 – 5-1 Vikings
Vikings beat the Dolphins behind another impressive performance by wideout Justin Jefferson. Get their bye week now to load up for 2nd half run. One of the best NFC clubs over the first half.

#5 – 4-2 Chargers
The Chargers outlasted the Broncos behind a strong game from runner Austin Ekeler. Host the Seahawks this Sunday, needing to win to stay apace the Chiefs.

#6 – 3-3 – Bucs
Bucs failed to bold off a late Steelers rally behind vet Mitchell Trubisky. Bucs seem to be falling and will need a good stretch run to run the average NFC South. They travel to Carolina hoping to stay above .500 entering midseason.

#7 – 4-2 – Cowboys
The Cowboys lost for the first time behind QB Cooper Rush vs the Eagles. Dak Prescott has been cleared to play, though probably sits another week. Host the Lions in a game they must have to stay abreast NFC contenders.

#8 – 5-1 Giants
The Giants continues to impress and play smart football behind runner Saquon Barkley and QB Danny Jones. They travel to Jacksonville where the Jaguars have proven to be a tough assignment at home.

#9 – 3-3 49ers
The 49ers were shocked by the Falcons showing little offense to control the game. QB Jimmy Garoppolo had a subpar performance. Their dominant D failed to produce in big spots. Host the Chiefs for NFC West leadership.

#10 – 3-3 Rams
Rams drilled the Panthers to end their two-game losing streak. Their offensive line is still their biggest issue on offense. They get a much needed bye week to regroup and get healthy at key positions.

#11 – 3-3 Ravens
The Ravens blew another 4^th quarter lead that puts them at the .500 mark. They host arch rival the Browns this week with each club pressing for a win to stay in playoff contention.

#12 – 3-3 Dolphins
Dolphins came short to the Vikings with further injuries at the QB position. QB Tua Tagovailo is about ready to return this week. Host the Steelers Sunday night looking to stay in the AFC playoff race.

#13 – 3-3 Packers
The Packers getting over a double Big Apple bashing. Their average receiving corps is limited Aaron Rodgers and could limit this club from beating the best NFC playoff clubs. Travel to the Capital this week needing a win to stay in playoff chase.

#14 – 3-2 Titans
The Titans are coming off their bye week and well rested to host South rival, the Colts. Look to get clubs
a steady diet of power back Derrick Henry thru the rest of the season.

#15 – 3-3 Bengals
The Bengals came on late to beat the Saints behind a strong performance from Joe Burrow. Their offense looked the best of the season last week. Host the Falcons this Sunday in a big spot to claim North leadership.

#16 – 3-3 Patriots
The Pats drilled the overrated Browns for their second impressive in a row. Rookie QB Zappe had a strong performance which could lead to a QB controversy. Host the Bears Monday looking to build much needed momentum for the second half run.

#17 – 4-2 Jets
Jets had another strong performance winning in Green Bay behind an aggressive defense.  Travel to Denver to face the desperate Broncos this Sunday. Only one game behind the Bills at midseason.

#18 – 3-2-1 Colts
Colts came back vs the Jaguars for the third time behind Matt Ryan. Face their arch South rival the Titans in Nashville this Sunday which will be for division leadership. QB Ryan has this club believing in itself and a win here could propel them through the 2nd half.

#19 – 3-3 Falcons
Falcons shocked the 49ers behind an impressive performance by QB Marcus Mariota. Their defense contained the 49ers and made two timely interceptions. Travel to Cincinnati for a key matchup hoping to string another win to stay in contention.

#20 – 3-3 Seahawks
Seahawks beat the Cardinals behind a strong rushing game by rookie Kenneth Walker. They travel to LA to face the Chargers hoping to prove there are a playoff contender.

#21 – 3-3 Cardinals
Cardinals were unimpressive vs the Seahawks with little offensive firepower the main culprit. QB Kyler Murray was looked lousy and looks to avenge this week at home vs the equally desperate Saints.

#22 – 2-4 Saints
The Saints lost a wild game vs the Bengals. They face a key Thursday matchup in Arizona that may determine the playoff hopes of two franchises.

#23 – 2-4 Jaguars
Jaguars came up short vs the Colts failing to hold a late lead. QB Trevor Lawrence had a solid performance but will be tested fully at home this week by the tough Giants.

#24 – 2-4 – Broncos
The Broncos have been lousy behind struggling Russell Wilson. They are the 2^nd lowest scoring offense which negates their strong defense weekly. Host the Jets this Sunday in a must win situation to stay in the AFC playoff picture.

#25 – 2-4 Browns
Browns continue to struggle to score points waiting for QB DeShaun Watson to be activated in late November. Travel to Baltimore for a critical game for their playoff hopes where the Ravens are equally pressed for a win.

#26 – 2-4 Steelers
Steelers shocked the Bucs behind former starter QB Matthew Trubisky who replaced injured Kenny Pickett. He led late scoring to beat the Bucs in a must win situation. Travel to Miami for key Sunday night matchup where the loser has an uphill battle to stay in contention.

#27- 1-4 Raiders
The Raiders are coming off their bye week and hope to regroup for a playoff run. They host the Texans this week and need a win to start a streak to get into the AFC West chase after a poor opening month.

#28 – 2-4 Commanders
The Commanders beat the Bears on Thursday night and are well rested for host the Packers this Sunday.  QB Carson Wentz will miss a few games and they will rely on backup Taylor Heinicke who gives them more mobility.

#29 – 2-4 Bears
The Bears might be the worst offense in the game and came up empty vs the Commanders. Travel to New England to face the resurging Patriots who ae always well prepared for vital winnable matchups.

#30 – 1-3-1 Texans
Texans are coming off their bye week and travel to Las Vegas to face the desperate Raiders where the loser in everything but mathematically eliminated from postseason.

#31 – 1-4 Lions
Lions are coming off their bye week after being shutout by the Patriots in a terrible performance. They have allowed the most points in the league despite one less game. Travel to Big D in tough matchup where HC Dan Campbell in on the HC watch list.

#32 – 1-5 Panthers
Panthers were outclassed by the Rams in their first game since the firing of HC Matt Rhule. They host the Bucs and will start their 4^th QB in PJ Walker. This club is in total disarray and top candidate for #1 pick in the NFL Draft 2023.

The Ravens won a huge AFC North matchup vs the Bengals. They may not be among the elite clubs, but they know how to win especially close games with PK Justin Tucker almost automatic. Travel to MetLife to face the much-improved GMen.

#11 – 3-2 Dolphins
Dolphins were bashed by the Jets with another QB injury to Teddy Bridgewater, in addition to starter Tua Tagovailo. Host the Vikings this week looking to get right relying on their ground game to step up.

#12 – 3-2 Packers
The Packers were blindsided by the Giants in London. Host the hot Jets this week needing a win to retain North leadership.

#13 – 4-1 Giants
The Giants victory in London was an organization win with the coaching staff and roster getting on the same page and finding a way to get it done. They face the Ravens at home this week looking to beat another strong playoff contender.

#14 – 3-2 Titans
The Titans recovered from a weak start with a good win over the Commanders. They get their bye week
this weekend which will benefit power back Derrick Henry to prep for a run to threepeat in the AFC South.

#15 – 2-3 Bengals
The Bengals lost a tough game vs their rival Ravens. Their offensive line continues to be barely average in big situations. Travel to Crescent city looking to get to the .500 mark.

#16 – 2-3 Patriots
The Pats shutout the Lions to get back to the win column. Bill Belichick returns to Cleveland his first HC position. Patriots need a win here to stay apace the competitive AFC playoff hunt.

#17 – 3-2 Cardinals
Cardinals fought the Eagles, but came up short late. Offense has not generated much production which must improve to win big matchups. Travel to Seattle with both clubs needing a victory to get even at midseason.

#18 – 2-2-1 Colts
Colts are well rested coming off OT win vs the Broncos on Thursday night. QB Matt Ryan is adjusting slowly to this new offense and leads the league in interceptions. Runner Jonathan Taylor has been injured and is essential for a balanced attack. They host the Jaguars this week looking to stay apace in the AFC race.

#19 – 2-3 Saints
The Saints won a wild game vs the Seahawks. Host the Bengals in a key matchup to stay in contention. Starting QB Andy Dalton is playing well and the supporting cast is dangerous.

#20 – 3-2 Jets
Jets had their best overall performance in years when they bashed the Dolphins at home. Travel to Titletown to face the Packers this Sunday hoping to build on the momentum behind QB Zach Wilson.

#21 – 2-3 Jaguars
Jaguars are competitive weekly, but fail to close games with marginal offensive firepower limiting their bled away any chance of beating the Eagles. QB Trevor Lawrence fumbled four times which killed a few drives and also put them in bad field position. Host the Texans this week looking to stay abreast in the AFC South.

#22 – 2-3 – Broncos
The Broncos continue to struggle behind an erratic Russell Wilson. They are the 2^nd lowest scoring offense which has negated their strong defense. Travel to LA for huge matchup with the Chargers that is vital to staying in contention in the talented AFC West.

#23 – 2-3 Falcons
Falcons can’t beat Tommie Terrific in the South and it continues to keep them as a bottom feeder. They are competitive and give a strong effort, though this club comes up short on talent and experience. Host the hot 49ers in a huge test for their struggling offense.

#24 – 2-3 Browns
Browns find ways to lose close games with marginal firepower which stresses their solid defense. They host the Patriots with both clubs borderline contenders who need a W here to remain among the leaders.

#25 – 2-3 Seahawks
Seahawks lost another wild game this time vs the Saints. QB Geno Smith continues to surprise with strong performances. Defense has surrendered the 2nd amount of points in the league. Host the Cardinals in an important NFC West matchup.

#26- 1-4 Raiders
The Raiders lost a wild game vs their arch rival Chiefs which keeps them in the West basement. Get their bye week to regroup and prepare for a long stretch run, hoping to duplicate last year’s strong playoff rally.

#27 – 1-4 Steelers
Steelers were crushed by the Bills behind Josh Allen. Their struggling attack has scored only 77 points in five games. They made the switch to rookie QB Kenny Pickett and will go through the growing pains to turn the page. Host the Bucs in a must win situation if they want any possibilities for staying in contention.

#28 – 2-3 Bears
The Bears came up short vs the Vikings especially on defense in coverage. Host the Commanders for Thursday night game, a winnable game that can get them to the .500 mark.

#29 – 1-3-1 Texans
Texans edged the Jaguars behind an impressive defensive performance. They get their bye week before facing the Raiders in the desert the following week.

#30 – 1-4 Lions
Lions were shutout by the Patriots in a terrible performance. They also have allowed the most points in the league with a whopping 170 points surrendered. Get their bye week now which could produce key changes before regrouping in two weeks.

#31 – 1-4 Commanders
The Commanders make the big mistakes weekly which keeps them behind most of each game. They are a low scoring offense with QB Carson Wentz making too many mistakes with the ball. Travel to Chi-town desperate to get into the win column.

#32 – 1-4 Panthers
Panthers were bashed again this time by the 49ers, leading to the firing of HC Matt Rhule. They will undergo many changes with possible huge trades prior to the Nov. 1^st deadline.

Bills bombed the Titans behind another stelar performance by Josh Allen. They handled Titans’ runner Derrick Henry very well and are a complete club who will make their presence felt in the AFC race.

#3 – 2-0 – Bucs
Bucs came back to finally beat the Saints under Tom Brady. This veteran club knows how to win with each unit battle tested. Host the Packers this week.

#4- 1-1 Chargers
The Chargers lost a tight game vs the Chiefs on Thursday night. Host the Jaguars this Sunday in a key AFC matchup and well rested. This matchup can be much bigger down the road.

#5 – 1-1 Rams
Rams held on to beat the Falcons with strong late defensive plays sealing their first victory. Travel to Arizona for their first NFC West matchup in the toughest division in the conference.

#6 – 2-0 Eagles
The Eagles blasted the Vikings behind a strong performance by QB Jalen Hurts. The Eagles are looking like the team to beat in the NFC East. Travel to Capital to face Commanders this Sunday.

#7 – 2-0 Dolphins
Dolphins made a great comeback to drill the Ravens behind QB Tua Tagovailo. Host the Bills in a battle for early season AFC East leadership.

#8 – 1-1 Packers
The Packers beat the Bears thoroughly again on Monday night. Travel to Tampa Bay for the next NFC battle between Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady.

#9 – 1-1 49ers
The 49ers drilled the Seahawks to get into the win column. They lost QB Trey Lance and will go with former starter Jimmy Garoppolo. Travel to Denver to face an old friend in Russell Wilson.

#10- 1-1 – Broncos
The Broncos edged out a victory vs the Texans. Their offense has struggled to provide any consistency with only 32 total points behind Russell Wilson. Host the 49ers in a key matchup to get above 500.

#11 – 1-1 Steelers
Steelers struggled offensively vs the Patriots losing a key AFC matchup. Vet QB Matthew Trubisky faces a big test this week in Cleveland vs North rival the Browns. Their offensive line struggled last week and may hold the key more than the QB debate.

#12- 1-1 Ravens
The Ravens collapsed at home vs the Dolphins which was shocking in many ways. Travel to New England in their steady diet of AFC East clubs. Their defense has been inconsistent through the early games.

#13 – 0-2 Bengals
The Bengals lost another game by three points. Their offensive line was terrible vs the Cowboys this Joe Burrow under constant pressure. Host the Jets looking to get into the win column.

#14 – 1-1 Saints
The Saints lost wild game vs the Bucs. Travel to Carolina in another tough South matchup with the winless Panthers. QB Jameis Winston will have to become more productive especially vs playoff contenders.

#15 – 2-0 Giants
The Giants came back and beat the Panthers behind the strong leg of Graham Gano. They host the Cowboys this Monday night in the most important early season game in years.

#16 – 1-1 – Cowboys
The Cowboys rallied around QB Cooper Rush in the absence Dak Prescott.  Offense did just enough and relied on their aggressive defense that sacked Bengals Joe Burrow 6 times. Travel to MetLife for an important matchup with the Giants.

#17 – 1-1 Vikings
Vikings were outclassed by Eagles with a strong defensive performance which shut down their passing game completely. Host the improved Lions this week in a key NFC North matchup.

#18 – 1-1 Seahawks
Seahawks were held to 36 yards rushing and added two interceptions and were dominated by the 49ers defense. Host the struggling Falcons this Sunday.

#19 – 1-1 Browns
Browns collapsed in the 4th quarter vs the Jets, surrendering key late TD passes. Host the Steelers this Thursday night in an AFC North rivalry which usually plays out heavy in the final standings.

#20 – 1-1 Cardinals
Cardinals made a great comeback vs the Raiders behind some Kyler Murray magic and a pick six in OT to clinch their first victory. Host the Rams, hoping to avenge their playoff debacle loss in their third matchup last season.

#21 – 1-1 Patriots
The Pats might lack big time talent, but they know how to win. They beat the Steelers on sound defense that didn’t allow the big play and stuffed the run throughout. Host the Ravens this Sunday in a game which should feature aggressive defense and focus on both power ground game.

#22 – 1-1 Bears
The Bears faced longtime rival the Packers last week and were drilled in another poor performance vs Aaron Rodgers.

#23 – 1-1 Lions
Lions exploded for another 35 point performance with QB Jared Goff playing very well. Their defense must improve both vs the run and pass. Travel to Minnesota for a key NFC North contest.

#24 – 1-1 Jaguars
Jaguars young defense shut down the Colts completely. QB Trevor Lawrence is playing well with new weapons that make this club dangerous going forward. Travel to the Chargers this week in a key AFC matchup.

#25 – 0-1-1 Colts
QB Matt Ryan struggled under heavy pressure by the Jaguars including 5 sacks and 3 interceptions. Runner Jonathan Taylor could only rush for 54 yards as Jacksonville won for the 8^th consecutive time at home vs the Colts. Host the Chiefs in a vital matchup for them to stay in the AFC picture.

#26 – 0-2 Titans
The Titans were toasted by the Bills on Monday night. They have problems on both sides of the ball with marginal rushing from the usually potent Tennessee ground game and average passing from QB Ryan Tannehill. They host the equally desperate Raiders this Sunday.

#27 – 0-2 Raiders
The Raiders collapsed vs the Cardinals and face a must win situation in Tennessee this week. They fail to run the ball effectively and rely on Derek Carr to carry this lifeless attack. They face Broncos and Chiefs in the ensuing weeks.

#28 – 1-1 Commanders
The Commanders came up short vs the Lions as they surrendered 4 TD passes and failed to protect QB Carson Wentz. Host the hot Eagles in a key NFC East contest.

#29 – 1-1 Jets
Jets made a great 4^th quarter comeback with QB Joe Flacco throwing 2 late TD passes for the victory. They host the desperate Bengals this Sunday as their difficult first half schedule continues.

#30 – 0-2 Falcons
Falcons came up short again with their late rally ending in turnovers. Their defense disappointed again and their attack lacks potent scoring potential vs top clubs. Travel to Seattle looking for their initial 2022 victory.

#31 – 0-2 Panthers
Panthers lost a battle of field goals with the GMen. They face a difficult upcoming month which probably does not bode well for this coaching staff’s future.

#32 – 0-1-1 Texans
Texans have been competitive in their early games, though lack the fire power to get over the top.
This club travels to Chicago where the Bears looking to stay pace in the NFC North.

Kenny Pickett – Steelers – He will sit to start the season which may be best for his development. If the offense is only average or struggling at midseason, he could get the call with the intent for their long-term answer.

Running Backs

James Cook – Bills – Explosive scatback will be fully utilized by QB Josh Allen in time especially as a receiver where he can be an impact weapon. Great fit and big play performer.

Dameon Pierce – Texans – Opportunity knocks here on a club desperate for production. Dameon gets a chance to carry the workload and could surprise with a 1000+ yard rushing performance.

Breece Hall – Jets – Well rounded back will split the reps with second year Michael Carter to form a potentially strong tandem.

Isaiah Spiller – Chargers – Tough tailback will get reps behind Austin Ekeler which should elevate their rushing attack.

Wide Receivers

Skyy Moore – Chiefs – Speedster should earn reps in this potent air game and become Patrick Mahomes’ new best friend in their changing attack. Polished slot receiver with top run after the catch ability.

Wan’Dale Robinson – Giants – Quick slot receiver is a highly developed pass catcher who can step in here in three wideout sets and provide solid production. He is a very dangerous runner after the catch.

Alec Pierce – Colts – Sure handed developed receiver gives QB Matt Ryan a dependable weapon with well-rounded skills. Type with sound route running to move the chains.

Jahan Dotson – Commanders – Versatile playmaker can give this offense a huge boost in a few roles especially if vet QB Carson Wentz reestablishes himself as a reliable starter.

George Pickens – Steelers – Talented wideout is finally healthy and can be an early factor in multiple sets with the upside to be the #1 receiver here in time.

Christian Watson – Packers – Big fast athlete hopes to shine in the Packers young receiving corps where he could be a factor working with Aaron Rodgers. Kid has a huge ceiling in time.

Romeo Doubs – Packers – Athlete is well versed in a pro style passing game and can find a niche in three wideout sets here and become a reliable target for Aaron Rodgers.

Treylon Burks – Titans – Strong athlete gives opportunity to become the go to receiver in this attack.

Danny Gray – 49ers – Speedster gives young Trey Lance a vertical threat to break open a game quickly. He gets time in multiple sets and should usually face single coverage.

Kyle Philips – Titans – Quick versatile receiver shows sure hands and run after the catch ability to fill a role here.  He is tough to get off line and a solid slot receiver.

Jalen Tolbert – Cowboys – Sure handed possession receiver gets an early opportunity in the thin Cowboys receiving corps. He uses his long frame well and can move the chains.

Tight Ends

Trey McBride – Cardinals – Agile pas catcher with fine movement and route running skills should become a favorite of Kyler Murray. Capable of top production early.

Jelani Woods – Colts – Huge athlete with skills to become a top flight NFL performer. In the Colts’ TE friendly offense, look for new vet QB Matt Ryan to go to him often on the short and middle routes.

Daniel Bellinger – Giants – Sure handed athlete wins the starting job and should become a favorite of QB Daniel Jones especially in the shorter zones.

Jeremy Rucker – Jets – Talented rookie is dangerous in red zone, though might struggle for reps with new vets CJ Uzomah and Tyler Conklin forming a deep unit.

Isaiah Likely – Ravens – Coming off an impressive preseason and good fit for an offense that uses multiple TEs in different roles. Fine H-back weapon.

Rams Hope to Defend Super Bowl Title

The 2022 NFL season is here with huge changes across the league giving fans hope their team can get the elusive SB ring. Yes, we did predict the Rams would win the Super Bowl last season. The Rams will be hard pressed to duplicate that in 2022 with only marginal roster improvement this offseason. In addition, star QB Matthew Stafford is struggling with elbow problems which could turn out to be chronic and limit his future production.

Parity reigns across the league with both the AFC West and NFC West looking like powerhouse divisions which could provide three playoff teams each. New upstarts like the Bills, Bengals and Chargers could all play a huge role in the AFC playoff races while established clubs like Bucs, Packers and Rams are primed to return to the NFC postseason behind star veteran QBs.

Cowboys hope to defend their NFC East title behind QB Dak Prescott who has emerged as a top flight performer. Their ground game relies on runners Ezekiel Elliot and Tony Pollard with above average results. Their receiving corps is currently thin with injuries and losses limiting big play potential. Their once dominant line starts season without LT Tyson Smith and added vet Jason Peters. Their defense has improved significantly with big play defenders, LB Micah Parsons and corner Trevon Diggs setting the pack. Boys will be pressed to hold off the Eagles and must prove their can win a big late game.

Philadelphia Eagles – 9-8
Eagles earned a wild card appearance last season behind young QB Jalen Hurts. Their veteran line performed well producing the NFL’s top ground game. Their receiving corps underwent huge changes and added veteran AJ Brown to couple with emerging young playmaker DeVonta Smith. Their average defense needs to step up and looks to top pick DT Jordon Davis to couple with vet Fletcher Cox to improve their struggling pass rush. This club can win the division, but only if Hurts takes the next step and the defense makes more turnovers.

New York Giants – 7-10
Giants hope to improve with a fully healthy tailback Saquan Barkley to balance an offense directed by young talented Daniel Jones. Their offensive line made major changes and holds the key. Their defense disappointed last season and must improve. They look to top pick Kayvon Thibodeaux to become a difference maker to compensate for some secondary coverage issues. Club is improved and possible .500 area, though probably a year away from playoff contention.

Washington Redskins – 6-11
Skins traded for vet QB Carson Wentz hoping he recaptures his prior level of play. He works behind an average line. He does have a potent receiving corps led by vet Terry McLaurin along with healthy vet Curtis Samuel and top pick Jahan Dotson who can provide a spark here. Their defense lost DE Chase Young with a knee injury. Former top pick Mike backer Jamin Davis needs to step up and become a playmaker here. Too many questions for this club to get to the .500 mark.

NORTH
Green Bay Packers -12-5 –
Aaron Rodgers heads this talented club looking for their 4th consecutive North title. New receiving corps must prove themselves, though Rodgers has developed many unknown players. LT David Bathtiari returns to form dominant side with guard Elgton Jenkins. Packers’ defense ranks in the top 2-3 in the NFC.  This club is judged by their postseason success and nothing less than a SB title will satisfy the doubters.

Detroit Lions – 8-9 –
Lions actually turned the page behind HC Dan Campbell despite only a 3-3-1 record. They lost five games by four points or less. They need more scoring power from QB Jared Goff with an improved ground game vital. Their defense looks for impact from #1 pick DE Aidan Hutchinson on a tough improving unit. Look for improvement here, though only if their offensive scoring improves.

Minnesota Vikings – 7-10 –
QB Kirk Cousin and runner Dalvin Cook keeps this offense at playoff levels, but only a revitalized defense will decide any postseason appearance. Wideouts Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen form an awesome tandem. The defense gives up too many big plays despite good overall pressure. Their secondary may have major turnover this season after being smoked in the red zone.

Chicago Bears – 6-11 –
Bears look to QB Justin Fields to take a major step up in his 2nd season. He paid his dues in 2021 as the offense ranked among the worst in the league in every category. They lack firepower other than wideout Darnell Mooney. Their average rushing attack must step up. Their defense relies on edge defender Robert Quinn and Mike LB Roquan Smith. This club comes up short on talent and experience to challenge for the playoffs.

SOUTH
Tampa Bay Bucs – 11-6 –
The Bucs had key roster turnovers along with changing from HC Bruce Ariens to Todd Bowles. QB Tom Brady unretired and returns in what probably is his final season. Offensive line features a few new starters. Veteran talented defense lost JPP and Nda Suh and look to LBers White and Barrett to maintain a high level for this unit. Bucs are not a given this season with both the Panthers and Saints eyeing the top spot.

Carolina Panthers – 9-8 –
Panthers added new vet QB Baker Mayfield to direct their struggling attack. He plays with a chip on his shoulder this season. Returning playmaker Christian McCaffrey can make a difference here behind a much-improved line. Their talented underrated young defense should continue to improve. This club could be the surprise team of the season and capable of winning this division.

New Orleans Saints – 9-8 –
The Saints begin the post Sean Payton era behind QB Jameis Winston, who has not established himself as a reliable starter. Backup Andy Dalton could get the call if their 32^nd ranked passing game does not improve. Wideout Michael Thomas returns and top pick Chris Olave can stretch the field. Runner Kamara is still one of the best all-around playmakers in the game. Saints’ defense is a top five unit who keeps them in the postseason chase.

Atlanta Falcons – 6-11 –
Falcons traded vet QB Matt Ryan after their 4^th consecutive sub .500 finish. They look to journeyman Marcus Mariota to direct an attack that struggled in most areas. Their poor ground game needs to improve. Defense ranks with the worst in the league. A tough first half schedule may put them strong contention for the first pick in the NFL Draft 2023.

WEST
Los Angeles Rams – 12-5 –
Rams look to defend their SB title behind star QB Matthew Stafford who is battling elbow issues entering the season. He relies on young back Cam Akers to continue his strong postseason performance. Wideout Cooper Kupp is the best in the game coming off a generational performance. HC Sean McVay directs this potent attack exceptionally well. Their premier defense relies on DT Aaron Donald and corner Jalen Ramsey to provide big plays. Strong SB contender again in a tough division which could provide three playoff clubs.

San Francisco 49ers – 11-6–
The 49ers past the leadership to former top pick Trey Lance with veteran Jimmy Garoppolo moving to the backup role. Runners Elijah Mitchell and Jeff Wilson form a potent pair. Wideout Deebo Samuel ranks with any playmaker in the game. Edge defender Nick Bosa may be the best pass rusher in the league. LB Fred Warner is primed for a strong performance. New FA corner Charvarius Ward is an emerging cover man. 49ers will challenge for the West title, though the offense must score more points to rank with the elite clubs in the NFC.

Arizona Cardinals – 9-8 –
Cards were embarrassed in the playoffs by Rams. QB Kyler Murray played poorly in that game after the best season of his career. They have a talented group of playmakers with new vet Marquise Brown a top deep threat. DE JJ Watt hopes to recapture his former glory. He must be a leader and playmaker on this average unit. Cardinals may struggle to return to the postseason with several NFC clubs capable of earning a playoff berth.

Seattle Seahawks – 6-11 –
Seahawks turn the page from the Russell Wilson era. They missed the playoffs last season and the offense failed in many big situations. The once renowned defense was only a shell of prior units and faces wholesale changes this season. They open the season with questionable QB Geno Smith the announced starter. He plays behind a line which will start two new tackles.  Their once dominant defense has slipped noticeable especially in the front seven. This club is starting a major rebuilding process that may include a key trade like DK Metcalf if they fall out of contention by midseason.

Buffalo Bills – 12-5 –
Bills are coming off back-to-back East titles behind star QB Josh Allen. They can take the next step to the SB with an improved ground game which looks to rookie James Cook to give Allen another big play weapon. Receivers Diggs and Gabriel along with TE Knox form an outstanding trio. The league’s top #1 defense will be tested with new corners initially. Maturing club with vital experience in big games and ready to go to the show.

Miami Dolphins – 10-7 –
Dolphins were aggressive in the offseason and added big play specialist WR Tyreek Hill for young QB Tua Tagovailoa. Hill joins WR Waddle to form a dangerous pair. Tua needs to step up in big spots for the Dolphins to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.  Their bend but don’t break defense needs to make more big plays vs playoff clubs to make the postseason. Early tough schedule might define this season.

New England Patriots – 9-8 –
Pats returned to the postseason behind rookie QB Mac Jones who performed very well with an average supporting cast. He will miss OC Josh McDaniels. Runner Damien Harris emerged as a tough inside force especially as a goal line weapon. Bill Belichick is a master schemer who utilizes his veteran defense exceptionally well where the whole is always better than the parts. Pats are always in the playoff hunt despite their current average roster.

New York Jets – 6-11 –
Jets will start the season with starting former top pick QB Zach Wilson out for the first month. Vet Joe Flacco directs this offense with many new starters. They will field a club with at least ten new starters who must adjust quickly with a very difficult first half schedule. Improved roster probably can not convert to victories this season as their 11-year playoff drought continues.

NORTH
Cincinnati Bengals – 12-5 –
True grit young QB Joe Burrow is a difference maker here after carrying this club to the SB despite horrible pass protection. The line will have three new starters and a major improvement. Wideouts Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins both produced 1000-yard performances. RB Mixon is a top-quality feature back. TE Hurst can surprise here and provide an excellent option. Their defense needs to improve in coverage and look to a few rookies to contribute. Burrow can carry this club again especially if the line provides better protection. Bengals are team to beat in North and capable again of deep playoff run.

Baltimore Ravens – 10-7 –
The Ravens look to QB Lamar Jackson to improve off an average type 2021 performance. The ground game can only improve after a host of injuries. The offensive line welcomes LT Ronnie Stanley after a two-year absence. WR Rashod Bateman and TE Mark Andrews are fine targets. They sustained major injuries in the secondary and look to the return of CB Marcus Peters and new safeties Marcus Williams and top pick Kyle Hamilton to stabilize this struggling unit. Ravens will push to return to postseason, though need a big effort from Jackson.

Pittsburgh Steelers – 9-8 –
Steelers turn the page from the Big Ben era. Veteran QB Mitchell Trubisky gets the starting call initially with rookie top pick Kenny Pickett waiting in the wings. Runner Najee Harris probably gets another 300-carry season. The offensive line may determine their success with a new interior trio of starters. The Steel defense slipped noticeably especially vs the running game. Edge TJ Watt is a dominant rusher who sets the pace here. This club is only a borderline contender and needs offensive line and secondary to perform well to challenge for postseason.

Cleveland Browns – 6-11 –
Browns made a hug deal for vet QB Deshaun Watson who is suspended for the first 11 games. Backup Jacoby Brissett has had average results over his 37 starts. They added vet WR Amari Cooper as their feature receiver. Back Nick Chubb is a workhorse and will get special attention. Their highly rated defense will have to excel to compensate for an average offense. Browns miss the playoffs again with an eye to the future with Watson returning for the final 6 games.

SOUTH
Indianapolis Colts – 11-6 –
The trade to add vet QB Matt Ryan can change the makeup of the South division. Ryan and HC Frank Reich are an ideal fit which can pay huge dividends this fall. Coupled with stud runner Jon Taylor and an improved receiving corps especially rookie Alec Pierce which should help their scoring significantly. Their young defense added edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue and look for second year Kwitty Paye to become factors to help DT Buckner and LB Leonard. This club can win the South outright with Ryan directing a potent Reich offense.

Tennessee Titans – 10-7 –
The Titans look to win their 3^rd consecutive South title. They need both QB Ryan Tannehill and premier back Derrick Henry to return to 2020 form. Their OL must improve after surrendering too many sacks. Their defense can rush the passer, though their young corners must prove up to the call vs playoff caliber clubs. Gritty team will slug it out with anyone, but limited playmakers on both sides of the ball must step up.

Jacksonville Jaguars – 6-11 –
Jaguars look to former top pick QB Trevor Lawrence to take a major step up working with new HC Doug Pederson. Lawrence paid his dues as a rookie with a marginal supporting cast and weak front line. He will benefit from new weapons WR Kirk and TE Ingram along with the return of runner Travis Etienne. Their young defense is loaded with talent with rookies, edge Travon Walker and Mike LB Devin Lloyd counted on to elevate this unit. This club can take a nice step up, though must show it can win marginal matchups.

Houston Texans – 4-13 –
You actually need a roster to figure out this club. They have a huge number of first- and second-year players. QB David Mills actually performed well with limited supporting cast. Their defense may be the worst in the league and equally inept vs the pass and run. Massive roster turnover over recent seasons makes this a major rebuilding project which will take a few seasons.

WEST
Kansas City Chiefs – 12-5 –
Chiefs look for their 7th consecutive West title behind star QB Patrick Mahomes. Their masterfully rebuilt offensive line was outstanding in 2021. New weapons, receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling hope to minimize the loss of Tyreek Hill. Look for rookie Skyy Moore to provide impact from the slot. Their defense added rookies CB McDuffie and edge rusher Karlaftis and both are counted on to become fixtures here. Veterans, DT Chris Jones and LB Nick Bolton set the pace for this changing defense. Annual SB contender plays in the toughest division and will be pushed to the fullest with every team capable of West title.

San Diego Chargers – 11-6 –
The Chargers look to young QB Justin Herbert to lead this potent offense to the playoffs after missing the past three seasons. Herbert was outstanding again and the league’s only 5000-yard passer besides Tom Brady. The line improved further with the addition of Zion Johnson. Two 1000-yard vet receivers Allen and Williams give them a potent tandem. They can surprise for the West title, though need huge improvement on their young defense adding vets, LB Mack and corner Jackson to join LB Joey Bosa and safety Darwin James. Favorable first half schedule can give them strong momentum for the playoff run.

Denver Broncos – 10-7 –
Broncos missed the playoffs the past six seasons leading to the blockbuster trade for vet QB Russell Wilson. He could be the missing piece here that has seen only mediocre production since the Peyton Manning retirement in 2015. Wilson has quality receivers in Sutton, Judy and Patrick along with emerging back Javonte Williams. Their highly regarded defense looks to improve in run defense. They rely on edge rushers, Bradley Chubb and new vet Randy Gregory to provide big play ability. Excited team looking to put it together behind savvy vet Wilson to win key AFC matchups.

Oakland Raiders – 9-8 –
Somebody has to finish last. Raiders talented QB Derek Car comes off a strong 2021 season and added his former college teammate Davante Adams to the offense. TE Waller gives Car a dangerous middle zone receiver. Edge rusher Maxx Crosby is a difference maker who needs new vet Chandler Jones to provide additional outside pressure. Their secondary allowed too many big plays and must improve vs the potent West passing games.

College Football Opening Week
Alabama, Georgia & Ohio St Set Pace

The first full week of college football entertained fans over Labor Day weekend and did not disappoint with a number of exciting national games. You need new roster sheets with the annual turnover of starters, plus the transfer rules which allow record number of player movement within Division 1 level. It makes for another season of highly contested matchups with weekly debates for the #1 ranking until the CFP title game in mid-January 2023.

Coaches also change loyalties with former ND head coach Brian Kelly moving to the LSU Bayou Bengals. The Tigers got into an uphill battle with Florida State and seemed to finally catch up with a last-second TD only to watch the extra point blocked to end the game. It was a major disappointment for Kelly in his SEC debut with the young and very talented Tigers failing to finish with big mistakes at critical moments.

Notre Dame begin a new era with head coach Marcus Freeman after a successful 12 year run with Brian Kelly who set a new career record for program victories. Freeman faced Ohio St in his debut and the Irish played the Buckeyes tough until faltering in a 21-10 loss. The Irish failed to score in the 2nd half and struggled to gain control of field position at any point of the game.

The traditional ‘Backyard Brawl’ between Pittsburgh and West Virginia finally returned after an 11-year absence due to conference schedules and ties. The ‘Brawl’ did not fail to live up to its long reputation as a bitter rivalry with the Panthers and Mountaineers going blow for blow before Pittsburgh won on a late drive 37-31. The two clubs scored 49 points over the second half in a wild exchange reminiscent of past matchups. Arguably the best game of the Holiday weekend.

Head coach Lincoln Riley shifted his alliances from Oklahoma to Southern Cal. While at Oklahoma, Riley guided the Sooners to three playoff appearances in five seasons with a 55-10 overall record. He hopes to revive the downtrodden Trojan program which has won only 22 games over the past four seasons. He started USC’s revival, smashing Rice in their opener. Oklahoma transfer QB Caleb Williams was Riley’s top recruit this offseason and they hope he will direct them in pursuit of the Pac-12 title. They make their Pac-12 debut this week at Stanford.

Both SEC finalists from last year’s national championship game, Alabama and Georgia won mismatches in blowouts. They do not play during the 2022 regular season, but certainly could meet in the conference title game or final four where the SEC seems to earn two seats annually.

Penn State faced Big Ten rival Purdue in West Lafayette in an unrated competitive matchup. QB Sean Clifford amended an earlier pick six with an 80-yard two-minute drive for the winning TD for a 35-31 victory with just seconds remaining. The Nittany Lions get a favorable early schedule until key contests from mid-October. Those games with Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State in succession will determine any pursuit of a Big Ten title.

Last but not least. Rutgers U won their opener at Boston College 22-21 in their most impressive early season victory in years. They hope to build on this momentum in their next two games vs Wagner and Temple before the Big Ten meat grinder portion of their schedule, starting with Iowa on Sept 24^th.

NOTES:
National runner-up and defending SEC Champion Alabama dominated the preseason poll with 42 of 52 first place votes. This is Alabama’s 59th appearance as the No. 1 team in this poll since 2014. The Crimson Tide leads all schools for appearances at No. 1 and is the only team to appear in each of the 105 weekly rankings since 2014.

Ohio State was second in the poll voting with six first place votes and 56 points behind Alabama with defending national champion Georgia at No. 3 with four first place votes, respectively.

No. 4 Clemson is in the poll for the first time since September 19, 2021, followed by Michigan, Notre Dame, Utah, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Baylor. Seven of the top 10 teams appeared in New Year’s Six bowl games last season. NC State is No. 14 and in the poll for the first time since October 15, 2018.

In the 2022 preseason poll, the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC had three teams each, Independents-one.  All Power-Five conferences had equal representation for the first time in the history of the poll which started in 2014.

The eventual national champion has been ranked in the top six of the preseason poll six times since 2015. Alabama in 2017 is the only national champion to start the season ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll.
