NFL Draft 2023 – Official List of Underclassmen

List of Underclassmen for the NFL Draft 2023

Underclassmen granted eligibility for 2023 NFL Draft. The list of 69 players granted special eligibility for the 2023 NFL Draft was released by the NFL on Friday. Giants (10-7-1) @ Eagles (14-3)
    8:15 PM est – FOX

Sunday, January 22nd

Bengals (13-4) @ Bills (14-3)
    3:00 PM est – CBS

Cowboys (13-5) @ 49ers (13-4)
    6:30 PM est – FOX

The best weekend in sports is the final eight teams in the NFL divisional playoffs. This year we get great matchups again including teams, the Giants and Jaguars who are back in the postseason for the first time in years. Both play on Saturday on the road facing tough assignments with the Giants traveling to Philadelphia and the Jaguars in Kansas City to face the mighty Chiefs. Sunday features two classic matchups with the Cowboys playing at San Francisco in another in a long history between the two NFC rivals. The Bengals face the Bills in Buffalo with two of the best young passers in the game, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen in an expected shootout.

The winners will advance to the Conference Championship games on Jan. 29th with the winners meeting in Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12th in Glendale, Arizona.

NFL Divisional Playoff Matchups – 1/21 and 1/22

Giants (10-7-1) @ Eagles (14-3)

Giants are peaking at the right time. They have had huge problems with Eagles in recent years and must continue their recent strong play behind a hot Danny Jones and tough Saquon Barkley. Their aggressive defense has been very opportunistic and will need to be at the top of their game vs the potent Eagles attack directed by QB Jalen Hurts. Eagle receivers Smith and Brown are a dangerous tandem that will test the GMens’ secondary which is finally healthy. Gmen continue to surprise as road warriors and find a way to beat their divisional rival.
   Giants 27 – Eagles 24

Jaguars (9-8) @ Chiefs (14-3)

The student meets the master in the Trevor Lawrence vs Patrick Mahomes confrontation. The Chiefs hold the #1 seat and well rested to take on the upstart Jaguars. Mahomes is magical and is dangerous in any situation. He will test the young Jax defense which must be composed early to create a game. Lawrence is a rare talent in his own right despite only completing his 2nd season. He will need a healthy guard Brandon Scherff to help neutralize sack artist DT Chris Jones.
  Chiefs 38 – Jaguars 21

Sunday, January 22nd

Bengals (13-4) @ Bills (14-3)

Great matchup with elite young passers Joe Burrow and Josh Allen and between divisional winners. Burrow looks to return to the SB, though will be under heavy pressure from an aggressive Bills defense. Buffalo HC Sean McDermott will pressure the weak injured Bengals line and harass Burrow coming out of the locker room. The Bills’ Allen has responded with huge postseason performances and looks to get their offense back on track after several unnerving weeks due to the serious Damar Hamlin injury.
Bill 31 – Bengals 24

Cowboys (13-5) @ 49ers (13-4)

Long history of playoff games between these two NFC clubs, including the 49ers’ 23-17 postseason victory last January. 49ers’ offense has new leaders in rookie QB Brock Purdy and Pro Bowl runner Christian McCaffrey joining TE George Kittle and WR Deebo Samuel. Purdy is the Cinderella story of the year as ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ directing this potent attack like a seasoned veteran. 49ers defense ranks with any unit in the league and will pressure Boys’ QB Dak Prescott who is coming off his best performance of the year. That matchup may hold the key to the outcome here. Boys defense must step up and harass the rookie Purdy with defenders, Parson and Lawrence being key performers for any positive Dallas outcome.
49ers 27- Cowboys 17

Safety Damar Hamlin Improves Significantly – NFL Regular Season Final Weekend Schedule

Safety Damar Hamlin Improves Significantly

NFL Season Final Weekend Schedule

The NFL announced today that Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin, who has been hospitalized at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center since Monday, has had substantial improvement in his condition. Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during Monday’s game which had huge impact on the players, coaches and fans who witnessed the traumatic collision. Though he still remains in critical condition, he has made improvement in 72 hours which is very encouraging. Currently, they have removed his breathing tube and continues to make amazing improvement. He has spoken to family and teammates and is addressing team via Facetime. The miracle continues to unfold with prayers for a return to full health from the nation and NFL community.

The Bills host AFC East rival, the Patriots Sunday afternoon this home field advantage through the conference playoffs at stake, along with the Patriots fighting for the final AFC playoff berth.

The NFL announced that the Week 17 Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati Bengals game will not be resumed and has been cancelled. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed all clubs of his decision on Thursday, after speaking with the Bills, the Bengals and NFL Players Association leadership.

“This has been a very difficult week,” Goodell said. “We continue to focus on the recovery of Damar Hamlin and are encouraged by the improvements in his condition as well as the tremendous outpouring of support and care for Damar and his family from across the country. We are also incredibly appreciative of the amazing work of the medical personnel and commend each and every one of them.”

Key factors in arriving at this decision:

Not playing the Buffalo-Cincinnati game to its conclusion will have no effect on which clubs qualify for the postseason. No club would qualify for the postseason and no club will be eliminated based on the outcome of this game.

The AFC Championship Game will be played at a neutral site if the participating teams played an unequal number of games and both could have been the number one seed and hosted the game had all AFC clubs played a full 17-game regular season. Those circumstances involve Buffalo or Cincinnati qualifying for the game as a road team and are listed below:

The NFL regular season closing weekend will determine the final three divisional winners with the Bengals/Ravens matchup for the AFC North title and the Titans/Jaguars deciding the AFC South winner key games.

The Eagles hold a one game lead over the Cowboys in the NFC East and host the Giants. A win and they clinch the divisional title. Three East teams, the Eagles, Cowboys and Giants are the only division with multiple clubs already in the postseason.  On Sunday night, the Packers-Lions matchup closes out the season with the winner qualifying for the final wild card spot. Both teams made strong pushes over the second half of the season to get to the .500 mark entering their final contest.

NFL Draft 2023 – First Round Selection Order

NFL Draft 2023 – First Round Order
Texans & Seahawks Hold Two #1 Picks in the Top 12 Choices

  Frank Coyle / NFL Analyst

With the NFL campaign entering the final two regular season weeks with several playoff positions still open, teams will determine the early selections possibly as this weekend.

With just two games remaining, four NFL divisional titles are still unsettled.  Both the NFC South and AFC South divisions are wide open with every club alive for a playoff spot and all holding sub .500 records going into week 16.

Currently, the Houston Texans hold the #1 position at 2-12-1, though only a half a lead over the Bears who sit at 3-12. The Texans upset the Titans last week which delayed any claim of the first overall selection in the NFL Draft 2023.

Last year’s Super Bowl champion, the LA Rams are already eliminated with a dismal 5-10 record.

In the AFC, the Kansas City claimed their 7th consecutive West title while the Bills earned their 2nd East title in a row. In the NFC, both the Vikings and 49ers earned divisional titles for the first time in several seasons.

The Rams do not have a #1 pick, due to the trade to the Lions for QB Mitchell Stafford. Four other clubs do not hold #1 picks, the Browns, 49ers, Dolphins and Saints. Four clubs have two #1 selections, the Texans, Lions, Seahawks and Eagles.

Currently, there are 9 teams with 7-8 records and holding the 12th through the 20th positions with a few divisional races decided over the final weeks in the overcomes. The final order for picks #19 through #32 will be decided by NFL playoff results. The strength of schedule percentage is for each club’s current season. There will be only 31 selections in the first round with Miami forfeiting their top draft choice.

The 49ers won their 7th consecutive game vs the Seahawks to claim the NFC West title. Their dominant defense continues to lead the league in the fewest points allowed. They host the Commanders needing to win to gain home field advantage in the postseason.

#5 – 11-3 Vikings
Vikings made the greatest comeback in NFL history vs the Colts. Their explosive offense continues to compensate of a vulnerable defense in major secondary issues. Host the Giants this week on Saturday in a key NFC matchup with postseason implications.

#6 – 10-4 – Cowboys
The Cowboys were drilled by the Jaguars in OT with their defense being shredded by QB Lawrence. Host the East leading Eagles where they look to clinch the division with a win on Christmas Eve.

#7 – 10-4 Bengals
The Bengals continue to peak with a victory over the Bucs. QB Joe Burrow lead the comeback with a number of clutch plays. Hit the road to face the desperate Patriots in a key AFC matchup with both clubs needing to win.

#8 – 9-5 Ravens
The Ravens fell to the Browns without QB Lamar Jackson. Their offense struggled in every phase of the game. Backup QB Tyler Huntley may start again with the Falcons coming to town. They need a win to keep in the mix for the North and wild card races.

#9 – 8-6 Dolphins
Dolphins have lost three in a row with a tough divisional loss to the Bills last week. Their defense has slipped noticeably Host the desperate Packers Sunday in a matchup that has impact on both conference playoff races.

#10 – 8-6 Chargers
The Chargers gutted it out vs the Titans for a critical victory. They travel to Indy to face the Colts who collapsed last week. Chargers have to step up here and separate themselves for the playoff pretenders.

#11 – 7-7 Titans
The Titans lost to the Chargers which reduced their South lead to only one game lover the Jaguars.
Hos the Texans in a must win situation. Their offense needs to step up and control the game behind
runner Derrick Henry.

#12 – 8-5-1 Giants

Runner Saquon Barkley had gutty performance. Travel to Minnesota to face the potent Vikings which could be a preview of wildcard weekend.

#13 – 7-7 Seahawks
Seahawks lost to the 49ers mainly due to an inept offense which failed to score a TD until late in the 4th quarter. They must recover quickly and get back on a winning steak with a difficult trip to KC this week.

#14 – 7-7 Lions
The relentless Lions edged the Jets to continue their turnaround from a weak first half. They have won 6 of their last 7 games and have shown an explosive passing game and an improving defense in the process. Travel to Carolina with both clubs clinging to their playoff hopes in the balance.

#15 – 7-7 Patriots

#16 – 7-7 Jets
Jets fell short vs the Lions with QB Zach Wilson back as the starter for their 3rd straight loss. They host the hot Jaguars this Thursday night in a must win situation for both clubs. The Jets defense continues to keep them alive in every game, but they need more production from a subpar offense if they want to win in late money games.

#17 – 7-6-1 Commanders
The Commanders lost to the GMen in a key NFC East matchup which has them in a desperate situation playing the 49ers in San Fran this week. Their NFC playoff hopes are slim and must win here to stay in contention for a wild card spot vs the leagues’ best defense.

#18 – 6-8 Packers
The Packers beat a battered Rams club on Monday night. They travel Miami with both clubs desperate with fading slim playoff hopes. QB Aaron Rodgers is capable of carrying this club, but their marginal mathematical chances demand them running the table from here.

#19 – 5-9 Saints
The Saints beat the Falcons last week to keep their playoff hopes alive. They are only one game out of first place in the NFC South. They travel to Cleveland this week in a must win situation, where both sub .500 clubs are still alive, but the urgency for each to win will most likely eliminate the loser.

#20 – 6-8 Jaguars
Jaguars won their biggest game in years with an impressive OT victory over the Cowboys. QB Trevor Lawrence has taken charge and lead this club with 4 TD passes to continue their late run for a playoff spot. Face the Jets at MetLife this Thursday which will determine the fate of both clubs.

#21 – 6-8 Steelers
Steelers beat the Panthers behind Mitch Trubisky, but will go with healthy Kenny Pickett this week. Ironically, they host the Raiders this week in wake of former Steeler great Franco Harris. Steelers must win here and look for help to have any remote AFC playoff chances.

#22 – 6-8 – Bucs
Bucs fell to the Bengals with their defense failing to contain Joe Burrow in crunch time. They still hold a slim lead the NFC South with a soft remaining schedule. They travel to Arizona to face the struggling Cardinals in a matchup where they can establish a two game lead with two to play.

#23 – 6-8 Raiders
Raiders got a gift win last week with a crazy final reckless play they made to score a game winning TD. Hoping to run the table and sneak into playoffs like last season. Travel to Pittsburgh this week where the loser can start making plans for next year.

#24 – 6-8 Browns
Browns beat rival the Ravens which kept their slim postseason hopes alive. They have three winnable games in the Saints, Commanders and Steelers remaining with no excuse to claim a final spot. Vet QB Deshaun Watson stepped up last week and made a difference in big spots.

#25 – 5-9 Falcons
Falcons turned the page and started rookie QB Desmond Ridder vs the Saints. They lost a close game but still within one game of the NFC South lead. They travel to Baltimore on Saturday which becomes the acid test for any playoff chances.

#26 – 5-9 Panthers
Panthers struggled vs the Steelers, though still maintain playoff possibilities in the weak NFC South. Host the hot Lions this week followed by a trip to Tampa. Sam Darnold has done OK in his audition for the starting job next season.

#27 – 4-9-1 Colts
Colts blew the biggest lead in NFL history last week when they totally collapsed vs the Vikings. They host the Chargers on Monday night hoping to play the spoiler of their playoff hopes.

#28 – 4-10 Rams
Oh how the mighty have fallen this season. Rams continue to struggle without Stafford and Kupp on offense along with Donald on defense. Host the Broncos this week in probably the two most disappointing clubs in the league this season.

#29 – 4-10 – Broncos
Broncos beat the Cardinals in a game for draft position. Travel to LA to face the equally disappointing Rams with both clubs facing important offseason questions.

#30 – 4-10 Cardinals
They lost to the Broncos struggling without QB Kyler Murray to generate an offense. They host the Bucs this week playing out the string for next season.

#31 – 3-11 Bears
The Bears pressed the Eagles last week, though came up short once again. They are on a 7-game losing streak with only QB Justin Fields’s running skills of interest. They host the Bills this week and be fully tested to compete for one of the premier clubs in the league.

#32 – 1-12-1 Texans
Texans played hard again, but lost in OT to the Chiefs. Travel to Nashville to face the Titans in a tough matchup. They could clinch the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft 2023 with a loss and Bears win.
