NFL Extends 13 Invitations to Top Prospects for the NFL Draft in Detroit
Thirteen prospects have accepted invitations to the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit which begins on April 25. The top three QB prospects and wide receivers head a group which features 8 offensive players.
The QB contingent is headlined by probable #1 overall pick Caleb Williams of USC, followed by Jayden Daniels of LSU and Drake Maye of North Carolina. They are the probable first three selections held by Chicago, Washington and New England, all in dire need at the positions. This year, QB JJ McCarthy could be the 4th QB selected and possible as the 4th overall selection, which would be a new NFL record at the start of the draft process. J.J. McCarthy will not attend the NFL Draft in Detroit. Also OT Joe Alt and TE Brock Bowers declined invitations for the event.
Three times, QBs were selected with the first three selections in the NFL Draft, 1971, (Jim Plunkett, Archie Manning, Dan Pastorini), 1999 (Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb, Akili Smith) and 2021 (Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance).
The exceptional wide receiver class could see the top three prospects come off the board in the top ten selections. Wideouts Marvin Harrison Jr. of Ohio State, Malik Nabers of LSU and Rome Odunze of Washington are also expected to be chosen in the top selections. They could be the start of a record setting class of receivers for both the early rounds and the complete draft process.
